Rare 'Alter Ego' Set: Oliviu (underground Romanian Sound)

This September, the Ibiza underground will experience two distinct sides of Romanian selector and sound designer Oliviu. Known as a foundational architect of the underground romanian sound, Oliviu is stepping out of the minimal shadows this Tuesday for a rare, unannounced "alter ego" set at Ibiza’s legendary Funky Room, serving as a vibrant prelude to his highly anticipated 20-year retrospective exhibition, DENEUITAT, opening September 13th at Vybe Department Ibiza (VDI).

Back to the Roots: The Funky Room Sessions This Tuesday, Oliviu trades the deep, hypnotic micro-grooves of the Carpathian mountains for pure Balearic sunshine. Taking over the Funky Room, he will debut an exclusive alter ego set rooted entirely in classic house, disco, and uplifting funk. For the artist, this is a homecoming to his earliest musical influences from the late '90s—a love letter to an era defined by smiling faces, infectious basslines, and dancing shoulder-to-shoulder until sunrise.

"Before rominimal and the modular synthesis, there was the groove," says Oliviu. "The Funky Room is an institution that preserves the true, unpretentious spirit of the island. To understand the deep, 20-year journey we are about to showcase at VDI, it felt right to first go back to the roots - to play music made purely for the joy of the dancefloor."
